The Code was initially approved by the WBF Executive Council at its Meetings in October 2011.
On 1st October 2015 at a Meeting of the WBF Executive Council in Chennai, India, a new WBF Disciplinary Code was approved, to come into force from 1st January 2016.
It was subsequently updated in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
In addition the WBF Sentencing Guidelines for Zones and NBOs were approved, and the Sport Integrity Declaration of SportAccord was formally adopted. On 6th September 2016 at a Meeting of the WBF Executive Council in Wroclaw the WBF Code of Ethics (approved by the Management Committee on 18 June 2016) and the IOC Code of Prevention (adopted by the Management Committee on 18 June 2016) were ratified.
In accordance with the sporting ideals and precepts of the Olympic Charter, the World Bridge Federation expects its affiliated NBOs and their members to respect the principles of ethics and good conduct. In view of these principles, the WBF Statutes prohibit political, religious or racial discrimination and any violation of human rights by the National Bridge Organizations (“NBOs”).
In order to guarantee, as far as this is possible, the above-mentioned principles, it was decided to institute the Disciplinary Code and the Code of Ethics and to adopt the Sport Integrity Declaration, the WBF Sentencing Guidelines and the IOC Code of Prevention to deal with any breach of the principles in question and any reprehensible conduct, in the sense of the clauses of this Code.
