Josef Harsanyi was born in Hungary, and became a German citizen in 1998, and now lives in Burghausen. He was elected as a member of the Executive Council in 2014.
He has been a member of the Board of the German Bridge Federation (GBF) between 2008 and 2016 as Vice-President, being responsible for the sports and international relations. Starting with 2000 worked in the Disciplinary Committee of GBF. He is the Chairman of Disciplinary Committee of the Hungarian Bridge Federation. He was elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the European Bridge League in 2010, and has been EBL Treasurer since 2014. He is Chairman of the WBF TDs Committee and a member of the Finance Committee.
